The Swimming Experience According to Tom

Splash goes the water as I jump into the pool . The teacher then instructs us of what stroke to do. As I take off with the destination of the deep end my goggles fall off. I keep going till the end but my eyes are stinging like someone sprinkled salt and pepper in them. I finished my length and found my goggles. I was exhausted !!! But the thing I forgot about was we still had to WALK home.

Swimming According to Matt

Room 5 had a great fantastic amazing time at swimming for two weeks, full of breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle. We had an array of instructors who taught us brilliantly. We walked to the pool and back, but that was only down side.

Letters to Wrigley

Three of us wrote letters to Wrigley suggesting new bubble gum flavours. Caitlin M wrote asking for strawberry flavoured Extras. They wrote back saying they already had those. Emily wrote asking for orange flavoured Hubba Bubbas. They said they had already tried that but they stopped because they weren't popular enough. I wrote asking for lime Hubba Bubbas and they said they can't take any ideas from outside Wrigley. Oh well.

Room 5 Reads to the Pre-teens of Tomorrow

Today we were lucky enough to make it across the road to Kidsfirst Northcote to read to some 'youngins'. Some reluctant, some enthused, but all got to hear a book created by one of the Room 5 team. The students found it to be a really enjoyable experience and were disappointed to have to leave the painting, flower arranging, blocks and playdoh behind.
Below is a video to give you some idea of our time there.
You can see the students of Room 5's thoughts on their e-Portfolios via our school website:

First Day of Swimming

Canta Math Projects

We are embarking on our Cantamath projects this week at school. There are some pretty creative ideas in the class. None quite as complex as this though...or are they?

Bring Your Jacket for Swimming

The weather will not be our friend this week so make sure you come to school with a waterproof jacket as well as your togs. If you have an umbrella it will come in handy too!
A few spare plastic bags might come in handy also.

Pap High Roadshow

Today we went to the Papanui roadshow. It was awesome, all the musicians were incredible and played beautifully. I really enjoyed the guitar group and the saxophone group they played
really amazing. The Papanui roadshow gave the students at Casebrook a taste of what Papanui high school to offer.

Caitlin's Hokey Pokey

As part of a Science Badge investigation Caitlin brought in some home-made Hokey Pokey for us last week.
I used 8 T of sugar and 4 T of golden syrup. I let it simmer for about 5 minutes and then I added 1 t of baking soda. This was the exiting part because it rose and I had to stir really hard! Then I put it into a greased pan and let it harden. The next day I took it into school and every one enjoyed it!

Nice work Caitlin; science you can eat!

Room 5's Grand Design

Here's video footage of Room 5 preparing the class for the term. Set the challenge of planning, then co-ordinating the shifting of furniture to best maximise learning space...from the learners perspective...Room 5 worked some magic today!
With Architect Caitlin Mac, and Project Managers, Cara and Michael, to oversee the 'Grand Design', Room 5 worked brilliantly together to complete the move in 10 minutes.
Awesome work!
