Hey guys, this is Ralex(Alex R), I just wanted to post the fact that we have been Year 9 for officially 8 days! I did mean to post yesterday, so it could have been a week but got distracted. Hope you are enjoying the holidays and are looking forward to High School. I have slightly mixed emotions about it...

Band quest
On Friday Henry,Aaron, Matt and I went with the rest of Ace of Spades (our rockband) to the Aurora Centre to perform at bandquest. We arrived at 4.15 for a rehearsal in front of the other bands and got a little bit of mentoring. Then at 7.00 people started arriving for a 7.30 start. The stage looked really cool with the multi- coloured lights and a smoke machine but instead of it making us excited, the nerves kicked in. Finally after several hours it was our turn to perform. Walking onto the stage was really exciting with the crowd cheering. As we got ready Chris (the m.c) introduced us. Then we were ready to play our first song; One day by Opshop. We began and the crowd went wild. The next song we played was Mercy which felt incredible to perform. At the breakdown in the song we got the audience clapping along,it was awesome. As it concluded we walked off the stage. When we got backstage our excitement levels were through the roof!

The Rotary Speech Finals
On Wednesday night I went to Breens Intermediate in the rotary speech finals. We arrived at 8:00 just in time to hear the first speech. There were 5 categories, each one was a year level. The levels were from year 4 -8. There were five people in each category . The people in the category of the person that was speaking were sitting on the stage waiting for their turn and once all five of those people had spoken they went down and the next category came up.I was sitting near the back of the hall watching the speeches. There were funny ones serious ones and some that were pure nonsense. There was a good one about awkward moments and another about L & P.We worked our way slowly through the year 4's,5's and 6's and then it was time for the year sevens. I walked up onto the stage with the other year sevens feeling so nervous I thought I would explode. I sat down on the seats at the back of the stage but as soon as I did I was called up again. I was first. I walked to the front of the stage and waited for the bell.Ting a ling .I started speaking as I felt my cheeks go red. But the nervousness stayed. When I got to my third cue card I felt it disappear. This was actually fun! Three minutes and thirty seconds later the bell rang again, indicating that I only had thirty more seconds.I talked my way through my last cue cards, finishing with Maya Angelou's quote-" people won't remember you for what you did or what you have... But how you made them feel." I felt a rush of relief and accomplishment as I sat back down. The other speeches went by in a blur.Soon it was time for the judges to decide so we all had some chocolate milk or tea and a biscuit while we waited. Then it was time. They presented awards to the year 4's,5's and 6's. A disappointing speech about a blobfish won for the year sevens but I got second! This was better than first because I didn't have to do my speech again! I liked the speech finals and although it was nerve- racking I would definitely do it again!

Busy week Wrapped up
Another busy week has come to an end. Particular kudos should go to the two teams at the Canterbury OTD current events quiz.
Our A team of Matt, Aaron and Alex came in the top 30 and beat our school year 8 team. Our B team of Nikhil, Taiiba and Jacob came in the 'top' 70.
Alex has also had success in our school Speech competition, coming second with her speech on 'Kindness being the greatest invention'.
Congratulations must also go to Olivia and Sarah who also spoke impressively during the speech finals.
Well done guys!

Festival Choir
Today Erica ,Desiree and I went to Christs College for a festival choir rehearsal. It was a rehearsal with the other schools in the festival which is happening on the 31st October( Halloween). We are singing a lot of old songs that we have never heard before mixed with some slightly newer more popular songs. We will be performing in the CBS arena next term. I am looking forward to this because it will be fun to sing lots of different songs with lots of different people. Only I don't want it to come too fast because we have a lot of work to do.

Ski trip
Yesterday 160 Casebrook students went up to Mt Hutt for the ski trip .We turned up to school at 7:00am and then 15 minutes later we left in cars and buses headed in Mt Hutt. 2 hours later we arrived at the mountain, excited and ready to go.
We started layering up our clothes ready to brace the cold but before we could take to the snow we had to go and get our skis ( or snowboards), boots, poles and helmets. We fitted our boots, put on our helmets and grabbed our skis and poles. We climbed the final stairway and placed our skis parallel on the snow. Our feet were placed in our skis and we pushed down until they clicked. We shuffled toward the magic carpet, a conveyer belt that took you higher up the mountain and rode up to the top. We came out the end and (kind of) skied down the mountain. After a while the wind crept up and blew ice in our faces and it wasn't so fun anymore. Then all the lifts closed and we had to climb up the mountain. This was really hard because even with our skis off we still had to carry them and our boots felt like lead strapped to our feet. But after all of this it was quite a great day and we would definitely go again.
